What are we looking for? Our Class Actions practice is now seeking a Senior Associate to specialise in First Nations and Native Title compensation work. Applicants from First Nations communities are encouraged. Ideally you will have more than 4 years post admission experience and have practiced in the area of Native Title and have experience advising Indigenous corporations and clients. Experience in providing advice with respect to compensation matters that arise in a mining or Native Title compensation context is an advantage. The successful applicant will be: engaged in ongoing Native Title compensation applications; mining disputes and broader advice to First Nation organisations; engaged in working with new clients to establish relationships; and work in a team with excellent employment benefits, a supportive team environment, and the intrinsic rewards of important claimant-focussed work. This unique opportunity is now available as a permanent full-time position, with potential flexibility for a part time role. Duties and responsibilities will include: Leading and driving Native Title compensation applications for various First Nation people across Australia Contributing to the preparation and conduct of existing matters, in collaboration with other team members; A high level of skill in task management and collaboration with other team members; Developing and maintaining relationships with clients to hold their trust throughout their matters; With involvement of other team members, conducting litigation in appropriate matters; Maintain and build new client relationships for the practice; and Providing exceptional service to clients and demonstrate a high level of cultural competence dealing with First Nations clients. What will you bring? Working within a collaborative and highly regarded team, you will be a committed and enthusiastic individual who possesses the following: Tertiary qualifications in law and hold a current Practicing Certificate More than 4 years post admission experience working in Native Title and/or working for First Nations clients, and ideally litigation; Excellent technical legal and analytical skills, including a demonstrated track record of producing technically excellent legal work Exceptional influence and negotiation skills and an ability to communicate effectively and compassionately Demonstrated skills in effective network and relationship management, and working as part of a team Ability to listen, exercise judgement and resolve problems expeditiously Commercial acumen and interest in key issues in the class actions sector Passion, with a keen sense of social justice What next?
